Tony Joseph Hellman
Tony Joseph Hellman grew up in Rawlins WY and graduated from Rawlins High School in 1968. After graduation, Tony joined the Army and served in Vietnam. After serving, he lived in various states mastering a number of occupations. He returned home to Rawlins in 1991 and continued his education.
In 1993 he graduated from Western Wyoming Community College with an Associate of Arts. In Laramie he obtained his Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice. In 1998 he accomplished his dream of becoming a teacher and received his Bachelor’s of Education. Shortly after receiving his degree Tony was hired by Sweetwater School District #1. He taught until retirement in 2012. During his time teaching he continued his education and received an MA in Education and a Principal Endorsement. He was able to share his passion for history and social studies with his students. His students appreciated his frank wisdom and enthusiasm for learning.
Tony married the love of his life Janet (Wells) on Oct. 10, 1998 in Jackson Hole Wyoming. They both enjoyed working in the Rock Springs school district and spending time together in the outdoors. Tony loved fishing and spending time with his sister in law Julie Capozzoli and husband Rocky.
Tony’s favorite thing in life was his students – he coached 7th grade football for a few seasons and was very involved in activities at the school. He was a traveling teacher most of his tenure and at times visited three schools in one day. He never stopped “coaching” kids to go to college and expand their world. It is true he shared knowledge with his students but Tony learned so much from each and every student who passed through his room. Tony found his true occupational happiness in teaching and guiding students; he was never happier than he was a teacher.
Tony and his wife Janet, moved to Casper to be near his grandchildren after retirement. Tony passed on to Jesus on Sept. 19, 2015 due to complications from his exposure to Agent Orange in Vietnam. Tony’s last act was to raise his hands to join those awaiting him.
Tony is survived by his wife Janet of Casper, his father Frank Hellman, his brother Michael Hellman, and his children Star, Tom, Steve, Monique, Eddie and Danica. He has numerous grandchildren ,nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and many friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Patsy Hellman and sister Anna Marie (Mimi).
